Judo randori and contest timer settings
A judo contest clock, a randori timer and an uchikomi timer answer different questions. The contest clock measures a bout. Randori repeats practice rounds. Uchikomi intervals organize repeated entries with a partner. UFT keeps each format available so you do not need to edit one timer for every part of class.
Judo round format
The IJF Senior preset has a four-minute regulation clock, no scheduled break inside the bout, a judo scoreboard setting and a golden-score overtime setting. The IJF’s published rules distinguish regulation time from golden score. The app’s five-minute Randori preset is a training choice, not the senior regulation length.

Golden score is not another fixed round
A tied contest can continue under golden-score rules after regulation. That differs from adding a fixed four-minute round with a rest interval. UFT represents golden score separately from scheduled work time, so a regulation timer’s duration should not be read as a prediction of the entire contest. Use the event’s rules for the scoring and stoppage procedure.
Every Judo preset in UFT
These settings come from the app’s timer library. Rest is between work periods; the timer finishes after the last work period. Preparation is separate. Custom timers can change the count, work time and rest.

Competition-style formats
IJF · Senior
1 × 4:00
A four-minute regulation contest clock with judo scoring and golden score configured separately. The scheduled duration excludes any open-ended continuation.
Separate overtime setting: golden score (no fixed duration). Not included in the scheduled work sequence.
Training formats
Randori
6 × 5:00 / 1:00 rest
Six five-minute training rounds with one-minute breaks. Randori timing is adjustable and distinct from the four-minute senior contest preset.
Uchikomi
10 × 1:00 / 0:15 rest
Ten one-minute entry-practice intervals with fifteen-second breaks. Set the partner roles and entry task before the sequence starts.
Choose a timer for your training
Randori supplies six five-minute rounds with one-minute breaks for changing partners. Uchikomi uses ten one-minute work periods and fifteen-second breaks. For entries, decide which partner works first and when to switch. You can also create blocks for uchikomi, throwing practice and randori, giving each segment its own round length rather than running all of class on the contest clock.
- Open the timer library in UFT and select Judo.
- Choose the named preset that matches the session. For a different sequence, create or customize a timer in My Timers.
- Check the round count, work and rest. Set preparation, warnings and optional warm-up or cooldown before starting.
Judo timer questions
How long is a senior judo contest?
UFT’s IJF Senior preset uses four minutes of regulation time. A contest may continue in golden score, so four minutes is not a maximum total duration.
Why is the randori preset five minutes?
It is a configurable training template. Practice rounds do not have to use the four-minute senior competition clock.
