Wrestling · ROUND LENGTHS & TRAINING USES

Wrestling period and drill timer settings

Wrestling uses periods, and the period structure depends on the style. Freestyle and Greco-Roman can share one clock pattern, while the app’s collegiate practice preset needs a longer first period. Training drills use shorter intervals so you can alternate partners and repeat entries.

Wrestling round format

UWW describes senior freestyle and Greco-Roman bouts as two three-minute periods separated by thirty seconds. UFT matches that structure. Its Folkstyle NCAA practice preset uses 3:00, then 2:00 and 2:00; its High School preset uses three two-minute periods. The folkstyle presets include thirty-second practice breaks. Those breaks and the NCAA preset’s stored overtime value should not be treated as a complete current competition procedure.

Why a multi-block timer helps

A repeated round timer assumes every work period is the same length. The NCAA practice preset needs different lengths, so UFT models the first period as one block and the next two as another. That same approach works for a practice that moves from entry drills to live wrestling. The timer follows your blocks rather than forcing one duration onto every part.

These settings come from the app’s timer library. Rest is between work periods; the timer finishes after the last work period. Preparation is separate. Custom timers can change the count, work time and rest.

Competition-style formats

Freestyle / Greco-Roman

2 × 3:00 / 0:30 rest

Two equal three-minute periods with a thirty-second break. The senior UWW clock pattern for freestyle and Greco-Roman practice.

Folkstyle · NCAA

Period 1: 1 × 3:00; Periods 2–3: 2 × 2:00 / 0:30 rest

Unequal practice periods: three minutes, then two and two. Includes thirty-second practice breaks and a stored overtime value; verify current competition procedures separately.

Separate overtime setting: 1:00. Not included in the scheduled work sequence.

Folkstyle · High School

3 × 2:00 / 0:30 rest

Three two-minute practice periods. The thirty-second scheduled breaks are practice resets, not an assertion about official stoppage timing.

Training formats

Live Goes

6 × 2:00 / 0:30 rest

Six two-minute live goes with thirty-second resets. Use the pause to swap partners or return to the chosen starting position.

Drilling

10 × 1:00 / 0:15 rest

Ten one-minute drills with fifteen-second breaks. A compact sequence for repeating a task and changing which partner is active.

Choose a timer for your training

Live Goes gives partners two-minute work periods followed by short resets. Drilling shortens the work to one minute and the break to fifteen seconds. Use the break to swap the active partner or reset the position. If you are practicing officiated matches, stop and resume the clock when your coach or referee calls for it; an automatic rest sequence is only a practice template.

  1. Open the timer library in UFT and select Wrestling.
  2. Choose the named preset that matches the session. For a different sequence, create or customize a timer in My Timers.
  3. Check the round count, work and rest. Set preparation, warnings and optional warm-up or cooldown before starting.
