Muay Thai · ROUND LENGTHS & TRAINING USES
Muay Thai round timer settings
Muay Thai timers need more than a three-minute work setting. Rest length changes the session: traditional five-round timing and ONE’s shorter non-title format use different breaks. UFT keeps both available, alongside training presets for pads, the clinch, the bag and shadowboxing.
Muay Thai round format
The World Muaythai Council’s published format is five three-minute rounds with two-minute breaks. UFT calls this Professional. The app’s ONE Championship preset is the non-title format: three three-minute rounds with one-minute breaks. ONE world championship bouts use five rounds with one-minute breaks, which you can create by editing the round count.

The bell is one part of the tradition
The World Muaythai Council’s round rules also describe the Wai Kru homage before the bout and the accompanying music. That ritual sits outside the fighting clock. For timing, the practical distinction is simple: the traditional Professional preset takes 23 minutes including breaks, while ONE’s three-round preset takes 11 minutes. Neither total includes preparation or a pre-bout ceremony.
Every Muay Thai preset in UFT
These settings come from the app’s timer library. Rest is between work periods; the timer finishes after the last work period. Preparation is separate. Custom timers can change the count, work time and rest.

Competition-style formats
Professional
5 × 3:00 / 2:00 rest
The traditional five-round pattern with two-minute breaks. Select this when the planned format specifically calls for the longer recovery interval.
ONE Championship
3 × 3:00 / 1:00 rest
ONE’s three-round non-title timing with one-minute breaks. For its five-round title format, customize the round count while retaining these work and rest lengths.
Training formats
Pad Rounds
5 × 3:00 / 1:00 rest
Five pad rounds with spoken Muay Thai combo calls. Its one-minute breaks make it a training template distinct from the Professional preset.
Clinch
6 × 3:00 / 1:00 rest
Six repeated partner rounds for clinch practice. Use the break to change roles, partners or the starting position your coach has chosen.
Heavy Bag
5 × 3:00 / 1:00 rest
Five solo bag rounds with one-minute breaks. Plan a task for each round rather than treating the timer as an instruction to work at one intensity throughout.
Shadow
3 × 3:00 / 1:00 rest
Three shadow rounds with spoken Muay Thai combinations. An equipment-free format for rehearsing strikes and movement.
Choose a timer for your training
Use Pad Rounds when a pad holder is guiding combinations, Clinch for repeated partner practice, and Heavy Bag for solo rounds. The training presets use one-minute breaks, so they are distinct from the two-minute-rest Professional format. Shadow includes spoken combo calls. Edit the intervals around the drill your coach has planned rather than assuming every Muay Thai session follows a competition format.
- Open the timer library in UFT and select Muay Thai.
- Choose the named preset that matches the session. For a different sequence, create or customize a timer in My Timers.
- Check the round count, work and rest. Set preparation, warnings and optional warm-up or cooldown before starting.
Muay Thai timer questions
Is Muay Thai rest one minute or two minutes?
Both formats exist. WMC’s published five-round format uses two-minute rest. ONE uses one-minute breaks. UFT includes presets for each.
Which preset is for ONE title fights?
The built-in ONE Championship preset is a three-round non-title format. Customize it to five rounds, keeping three-minute work and one-minute rest, for the published world championship timing.
