TRAINING & TIMER SETTINGS

Muay Thai round format: one-minute or two-minute rest?

Three-minute rounds appear in several Muay Thai formats, but their breaks and round counts differ. Choosing only the work duration can leave you training a different sequence from the one you intended.

The traditional five-round clock

The World Muaythai Council publishes five three-minute rounds with two-minute breaks. UFT’s Professional preset follows that pattern: fifteen minutes of work and eight minutes of rest, for 23 minutes before preparation.

The WMC round rules also describe the Wai Kru homage before the bout. A training timer’s preparation phase is not an attempt to time or replace that ceremony.

ONE uses a different break

UFT’s ONE Championship preset is the non-title format with three rounds and one-minute breaks. Do not assume the preset’s name means a five-round title bout. Customize the count for the event you want to rehearse.

ONE preset and title-format distinction

Pad work is a training choice

The app’s Pad Rounds and Heavy Bag presets use five three-minute rounds with one-minute breaks. Clinch uses six rounds at that rhythm. They organize training and do not claim that every Muay Thai class follows the same competition rules.

Pad Rounds can call spoken combinations; switch that off if the pad holder is setting the sequence. For clinch practice, use the rest to change partner roles or starting positions. Shadow gives you a shorter three-round sequence without equipment.

Save the two formats separately

Keep a two-minute-rest timer for the traditional format and a one-minute-rest timer for the training or promotion format you need. Give custom timers descriptive names so changing a pad session does not silently change the bout-practice clock.
